LAUSANNE, November 13, 2015 –

Stephen Fox , presedintele AIMS , organism al sporturilor non olimpice , recunoscute, a confirmat faptul ca World Combat Games vor fi reintroduse incepand cu 2018 . Dupa o perioada dificila pentru Sport Accord , Peru a renuntat la organizarea World Combat Games in 2017.

Organizarea jocurilor a inceput in Beijing 2010 , la inceput fiind 11 sporturi de lupta .

Muay Thai sau Thai Boxing e doar unul dintre sporturile care vor beneficia de o organizatie noua a Combat Games.

Fox explained: “The Combat Games are not just a sporting event. They represent is an exchange of culture, of new combat sports, of fight sports, of everyone. What you do at a Combat Games is not just the competition itself but forums, cultural events, therefore the combat games have a special place for us.

“After the problems in Sochi and then Lima, we have had positive talks in the combat sport circle regarding holding the Games in 2018, with Kazakhstan already having shown interest in hosting the event.”

Fox, a former Muaythai World Champion, confirmed former SportAccord president and chief of the International Judo Federation was also present during talks.

“Judo will also be at the Combat Games, of course. Regardless of what happened previously, Vizer is still the president of the Judo Federation and is a martial artist by heart.”

After the initial withdrawal of Olympic heavyweights taekwondo, boxing and wrestling from the 2017 Combat Games and subsequent withdrawal of Lima as the host city, it was confirmed that all 16 combat federations were in support of organizing a new version of the Games in 2018.

“For us it was important to see if the Olympic sports would support the decision of reinitiating the World Combat Games, and they did, every single federation was present at the meeting and they are all in full support of the Games.”

The initial meetings in Lausanne led to the establishment of three points crucial to the future of combat sports, including the 2018 Combat Games, an annual martial art gala, and a closer cooperation with WADA.

Fox highlighted that the Lausanne meeting was a merely a start in the negotiation process, with a leadership structure of the Games being a crucial point to work out at the 2016 SportAccord Convention. SportAccord had announced earlier in the week that a merging with SportAccord Convention was on the cards at the upcoming convention.

“It is still to be decided whether the Games will be organized via the new SportAccord or via the three groups ARISF, AIMS and ASOIF or just through the federations of the 16 participating sports. This will be decided in 2016, when an official meeting will be held and when the bidding process for hosting the Games will be opened.”

The previous Combat Games were successfully held in 2013 in St. Petersburg, and Fox insisted that, while specific criteria of the reinitiated Games would be discussed next year, the basic concept of the St. Petersburg Games would be the same.

“St. Petsersburg had a good number of athletes and disciplines and represented a healthy Games. And this format of the competition is financially affordable for a country like Kazakhstan for example.”

Recent developments regarding doping in Russian Athletics and WADA’s independent Commission report which is set to lead to the provisional suspension of the Russian Athletics Federation from world athletics, also left a mark, with the combat sport federations agreeing on stricter WADA compliance and on signing an agreement to strengthen relations with the World Anti-Doping Agency.

“We have signed a pledge within the 16 sports in the combat games circle, that we will only work together with recognized sporting groups, ASOIF. ARIFS , AIMS. We will work together to ensure that we are all WADA-compliant and that we are not associated with sports that are not WADA compliant. We will also sign an agreement to strengthen the relationship with WADA, to protect our respective sports and our athletes.”
