The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that Romania’s Simona Halep has earned the 2017 WTA Year-End World No.1 singles ranking, presented by Dubai Duty Free.
Since the inception of computer rankings in 1975, Halep becomes the 13th WTA player to achieve the year-end No.1 singles ranking, and the first from Romania.
"Our congratulations to Simona Halep who is a worthy winner of the WTA year-end World No.1 singles ranking. Simona has had a great season, winning the title in Madrid and reaching the final at Roland Garros," said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dubai Duty Free. "We wish her well for the remainder of the year and look forward to seeing her play in Dubai in the near future, where she has many ardent fans."
The Romanian became the 25th player to achieve the No.1 ranking on October 9, 2017 following her 27th career WTA final at the China Open in Beijing, and will hold the No.1 ranking on November 9, the official year-end rank date for the 2017 season.

With a run to the final of the China Open in Beijing, Romania's Simona Halep will become the new WTA World No.1 when the updated rankings are released on Monday, October 9.
The 26-year-old becomes the first player representing Romania to achieve this historic milestone since the computer rankings were introduced in 1975, and will be the 25th woman overall to hold the No.1 ranking.
Her rise to WTA World No.1 brings an end to the reign of Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza, who spent four weeks in the position, and she is the fifth woman in 2017 to hold top spot, also following Angelique Kerber, Serena Williams and Karolina Pliskova.
This triumph is the latest peak in a surging career for Romania's best player, and comes off the back of reaching her fifth WTA final of the season in Beijing.
In the last 52 weeks, Halep has won the Madrid Open for the third Premier Mandatory title of her career, and reached the final of the French Open, the Italian Open and the Cincinnati Open, and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
This season, she's scored five Top 10 victories and has made the last eight in 11 of her past 13 tournaments.

din pacate ,Simona Halep, locul 2 WTA şi cap de serie numărul 2, a fost învinsă marți dimineață de rusoaica Maria Şarapova, locul 147 WTA, fostă numărul 1 mondial, beneficiară a unui wild card, în manşa I a US Open, ultimul Grand Slam al anului.
Meciul are loc la noapte . in jurul orei 2,00.
The first round between No.2 seed Simona Halep and wildcard former champion Maria Sharapova sent shockwaves through the tennis world. Between them, they have only one first-round exit at the US Open - Halep's debut, in 2010, which she lost to No.4 seed Jelena Jankovic in three sets.
In total, Halep has fallen at the first hurdle in a Slam 10 times. Sharapova, on the other hand, has suffered only three first-round Slam losses in a 14-year career, two of which came in her first two majors in 2003. The Russian's last first-round exit at a Slam was at the hands of Maria Kirilenko at the 2010 Australian Open.
Sharapova leads the head-to-head against Halep 6-0 - however, three of those matches were tight three-setters, including the 2014 Roland Garros final, and the Russian has only once won a set against the Romanian by an easier score than 6-3.

Trei dintre cele patru ediții ale BRD Bucharest Open desfășurate până acum au fost câștigate de jucătoare din România.
De două ori s-a impus Simona Halep, pentru ca la ediția din 2017 campioană să fie Irina Begu.
Finala de la Arenele BNR, de duminică, a durat mai puțin decât se aștepta lumea, pentru că partida se anunța a fi una foarte echilibrată. S-a terminat, însă, în doar două seturi, 6-3, 7-5 în favorarea favoritei nr. 7, care a învins-o pe Julia Goerges, cap de serie nr. 3.
La puțin timp după ceremonia de premiere, Irina a intrat pe teren pentru finala de dublu, probă în care, alături de Raluca Olaru, au fost desemnate principalele favorite.
