Genocidul (termen creat în 1944 de juristul polonez Raphael Lemkin pentru a denumi „practica exterminării națiunilor și a grupurilor etnice”) reprezintă exterminarea intenționată (deliberată) a unei comunități (a unor grupuri) naționale, etnice, rasiale sau religioase, constituind o crimă împotriva umanității.
Adunarea generală a Organizației Națiunilor Unite, prin Rezoluția sa 96 (I) din 11 decembrie 1946, a declarat că genocidul este o crimă la adresa dreptului ginților, în contradicție cu spiritul și scopurile Națiunilor Unite și pe care lumea civilizată îl condamnă.
În Convenția pentru prevenirea și reprimarea crimei de genocid[1], genocidul se referă la oricare dintre actele de mai jos, comise cu intenția de a distruge, în totalitate sau numai în parte, un grup național, etnic, rasial sau religios, cum ar fi:
- a) omorârea membrilor unui grup;
- b) atingerea gravă a integrității fizice sau mentale a membrilor unui grup;
- c) supunerea intenționată a grupului la condiții de existență care antrenează distrugerea fizică totală sau parțială;
- d) măsuri care vizează scăderea natalității în sensul grupului;
- e) transferarea forțată a copiilor dintr-un grup într-altul.

In noaptea aceasta, de 28 spre 29 octombrie, România revine de la ora de vară, care se aplică din ultima duminică a lunii martie, la ora Europei de Est sau Timpul Legal Român. Astfel, începând de duminică, România va avea două ore avans faţă de timpul universal coordonat (UTC).

NASA Voyager mission engineers are preparing a software patch that will allow the thrusters aboard the Voyager 1 and 2 interstellar probes to continue operating for another five years, keeping the spacecraft in communications with Earth.
The Voyager spacecraft have been in service since their launch in 1977 and have exceeded their life expectancy many times over. They're a testament to the teams that designed them, but after almost half a century their very longevity is creating new problems that were never anticipated.

After just 12 months of development, Figure has released video footage of its humanoid robot walking – and it's looking pretty sprightly compared to its commercial competition. It's our first look at a prototype that should be doing useful work within months.
Figure is taking a bluntly pragmatic approach to humanoid robotics. It doesn't care about running, jumping, or doing backflips; its robot is designed to get to work and make itself useful as quickly as possible, starting with easy jobs involving moving things around in a warehouse-type environment, and then expanding its abilities to take over more and more tasks.

As the age of the smart weapon continues, Northrop Grumman has been awarded a US Navy contract to develop a new self-guided 57-mm artillery shell for the Navy's Mk110 Naval Gun Mount medium-sized gun used on Littoral Combat Ships.
If you watch old movies or newsreels of naval combat, they tend to resemble gunpowder-besmirched storms with shot and shell blasting all over the place like steel rain. Today, things have changed as the major navies rely much more on precision rather than sheer firepower. Instead of massive salvos of giant shells packed with high explosives fired in the hopes of one of them landing close enough to the target to cause some damage, the goal nowadays is to shoot one round filled with not much explosives designed to land just where it can do the most good – or the most harm, depending on your point of view.
