PREMIERES AND INNOVATIONS

As the only international motor show held annually during the spring in Europe and on "neutral territory", the Geneva Show is known as one of the most representative in the industry.

The top manufacturers always unveil major innovations at the Show, in the presence of their CEOs. This year around 130 world and European premieres have been announced in the “motor cars”, “special bodywork” and “converted cars” sections alone. Some 50 world and European premieres have been registered in the “accessories”, “OEM” and “workshop installations” sections.

CAR OF THE YEAR

For the second time in the 50-year history of Car of the Year, the most important award in its field will be announced in 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show on 4 March.

Currently, 59 journalists from 23 countries are members of the jury. Car of the Year has been awarded since 1964 and was established by seven European magazines from seven countries: Germany (Stern), Italy (Auto), France (L'Automobile), Spain (Autopista), United Kingdom (Autocar), The Netherlands (Autovisie) and Sweden (Vi Bilägare).

For more information, visit www.caroftheyear.org.

CREATIVITY AWARD

In 2013, the Advertising and Communication Club of Geneva will present the 9th Creativity Award to the exhibition stand which facilitates the greatest circulation through the stand, has the best access to the models presented and the most effective presentation of new models. The attractiveness and welcoming nature of the stand will also be judged. The jury will evaluate the stands during the press days as well as on one of the public days. The award will be presented in the Mont-Blanc Bar-Lounge in Hall 4 at 6:00 p.m. on 14 March.

GREEN VISION – 10% of cars exhibited are ‘green’

The Geneva International Motor Show has always showcased the latest technological developments of automotive manufacturers. In 2009, it became the first international motor show to dedicate an entire section to the theme of vehicles powered by alternative energy systems and renewable fuel sources (the Green Pavilion). Following the enlargement of Hall 6, all of the alternative energy-powered vehicles will this year be displayed within the main exhibition halls. A brochure of all vehicles (however powered) that emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre will be available to visitors, to maintain the Show’s emphasis on ‘clean’ driving. 10% of the cars on display meet this criterion.

GREEN FUTURE MOBILITY FORUM – a series of lectures on mobility

For the first time this year, the organisers of the Geneva International Motor Show are putting on a series of lectures on the theme of mobility today and tomorrow. They will take place between Friday, 8 March and Friday, 15 March. A total of 10 speakers will give two talks a day (at 2-3 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.) on a wide variety of automotive-related topics: technology, ecology, safety/security and politics as well as motorsports and advertising. The lectures are open to the public and free of charge to Motor Show visitors. They will be given in French and/or German. To attend, simply go to room K in the Palexpo Conference Centre. A detailed programme can be found at www.salon-auto.ch.
