The EOS R8 (shown) and EOS R50 join Canon's mirrorless camera family

Canon's EOS R mirrorless family has grown by two. The R8 is billed as the lightest full-frame EOS camera so far and is aimed at "the up-and-coming video or photo enthusiast" while the R50 is for smartphone creators looking to step up.
The EOS R8 is designed to satisfy the needs of entry level users looking to boost their photo and video game, and essentially combines the compact dimensions of the four-year-old EOS RP with technology trickled down from last year's EOS R6 Mark II.

PNG inches towards more LNG [Gas in Transition] PDF Imprimare
Joi, 02 Februarie 2023 14:58

After years of political disagreements and community disputes, Papua New Guinea is making progress towards almost doubling its LNG production. [Gas in Transition, Volume 2, Issue 12]

by: Neil Ford

With the world’s biggest LNG markets on its doorstep in East Asia, untapped proven gas reserves and experienced developers, all the ingredients are in place for Papua New Guinea (PNG) to expand its LNG capacity. US major ExxonMobil, France’s TotalEnergies and Australia’s Santos seem committed to the country, and it looks likely that a final investment decision will be taken on at least one new planned project next year. The existing LNG project, PNG LNG, began production in 2014. ExxonMobil had originally investigated the possibility of piping gas 3,000 km south to Australia, presumably for LNG production on the north coast, but the Papuan government preferred domestic liquefaction to retain more of the project’s economic benefits within the country. The fact that PNG LNG involved tapping onshore gas fields gave the government’s argument more weight than the similar debate in Timor-Leste over domestic

New LG tech allows for continuous optical zooming on smartphone cameras PDF Imprimare
Marţi, 03 Ianuarie 2023 15:02
The Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module will be officially unveiled next month at CES
With a few notable exceptions, most smartphone cameras zoom either digitally or via a few optical zoom presets. That could soon change, however, as LG Innotek has announced its new Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module.
When you use the digital zoom on a smartphone – or even on a cheaper point-and-shoot camera – all you're really doing is magnifying the pixels in the middle of the image. As a result, the more you zoom, the grainier the shot gets.

Carrying the uncrewed Orion spacecraft, the SLS lifts off from Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center
The most powerful rocket in the world, NASA's Space Launch System(SLS) successfully lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center at 1:47am EST this Wednesday. It proceeded to carry the uncrewed Orion spacecraft into orbit, as part of the Artemis I mission.
The launch took place after more than a decade of development. It was originally scheduled to take place this August, but was repeatedly postponed due to factors such as bad weather, hydrogen leaks and engine trouble. This latest attempt was a success, however, as the SLS blasted off and delivered Orion into orbit.

Rezultate de succes ale unui medicament pentru inhibarea genei comune care cauzează cancer PDF Imprimare

The MYC gene promotes tumor growth and was previously through to be an undruggable target

Preliminary results from an ongoing Phase 1/2 human trial indicate a new drug dubbed OMO-103 can safely and effectively inhibit the function of a gene known to drive the growth of many common forms of cancer.
For decades scientists have known a specific gene, called MYC, plays a crucial role in the proliferation of cancer cells. The gene is often over expressed in a variety of different tumors, so it has been any ideal hypothetical target for novel cancer treatments.

But despite many attempts, MYC has earned a reputation as an "undruggable" target. The gene produces disordered proteins, making it difficult to develop therapeutic drugs that generally need to target fixed protein structures.
